Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu is a Nigerian politician, an elder statesman and the chairman of Champion Newspaper. He is also the founder of Iwuanyanwu football club, popularly known as Heartland FC.

Iwuanyanwu who  lost his wife Eudora, in 2011, tied the knot with his very young bride two weeks ago at a traditional ceremony. The white wedding is scheduled for tomorrow at the Ikeduru diocese in Imo state, with a reception at  an event center along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.

Sources hinted that the grown children of the high chief vehemently opposed the marriage because of the age difference.

They vowed to boycott the ceremonies while the father threatened to disown them.
Iwuanyanwu has four daughters: Mrs Nwadiuto Iheakanma who is Managing Director of Champion Newspapers, Ezinne, Nnnene and Jidechi who is in the United States. They are all older than the new wife.
He also has another son outside wedlock.

Sources hinted that the father of the new bride, Chief Enwerem is a traditional ruler in the Ugiri autonomous community, in Mbano.   Iwuanyanwu allegedly facilitated the creation of the autonomous community. The mother was a close friend to Iwuanyanwu’s late wife.

The children, it was further gathered insisted that their father settled with some older lady, preferably the woman who had a son for him outside wedlock.

But when he insisted,  the children decided to boycott both the traditional and white wedding.
Another drama is the decision of Iwuanyanwu to hold the wedding at his local Ikeduru Anglican Diocese, instead of the head quarters which is the Owerri Diocese.

It was gathered that there had been no love lost between the Bishop in Owerri and Iwuanyanwu because they finger him as the one who spearheaded the creation of the Ikeduru Diocese.

Our source however said the decision to wed a much younger woman was taken because Iwuanyanwu believes he is not in best of health and age not on his side, would need a much younger woman who would be able to take very good care despite the stress.

It was also gathered that a flank of the family are not happy with the position of the children who are all grown and out of the house. A source contended “ it is very unfair on the man for the older children who have all left home to hold the old man to ran some. Who he marries is his choice, the woman is not under aged. So why not give your father all the support”

‘The Magicians’ Renewed for Season 2 on Syfy

Syfy has renewed freshman drama “The Magicians” for Season 2, the cabler announced Monday.


The show will return for 13 episodes, slated to air in 2017. Based on the bestselling series of novels from Lev Grossman, “The Magicians” hails from Universal Cable Productions and is executive produced by John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers and Groundswell Productions’ Michael London and Janice Williams.

“Thanks to an extraordinarily gifted creative team of executive producers and our partners at Universal Cable Productions, ‘The Magicians’ has become a buzzed-about hit, enchanting fans of the novels as well as attracting new and younger audiences to Syfy,” said Dave Howe, President, Syfy & Chiller.


The contemporary fantasy drama is currently airing Mondays at 9 p.m. on Syfy, and has debuted three episodes to date.

“The Magicians” has averaged 1.7 million viewers over its first three episodes in Live+3. Syfy also gave the series a non-linear preview online and on-demand, when it was sampled more than 6.7 million times. An on-air preview of the pilot in December also drew 1.3 million viewers in Live+7.

Lynda Carter Joins Supergirl Season 2

Lynda Carter is joining the cast of Supergirl Season 2.
Carter, who played Wonder Woman in the 70s, is playing the President of the United States in Supergirl, which will be a recurring role.

Producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg said back in March that they had a role for Lynda Carter on Supergirl, but that her schedule couldn't sync up, so they had to push it to Season 2.

Lynda Carter will appear as the President in episode three and joins the recent casting news of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.

Supergirl Season 2 premiers Monday, October 10th at 8pm ET starring Melissa Benoist on The CW.

In Somalia Security chief killed by own guard, al Shabaab claims responsibility Abdiweli Ibrahim Mohamed, the head of national security in Somalia's Middle Shebelle region, was shot dead in Jowhar, a town 90 kilometres north of Mogadishu.

The Islamist militant group al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the killing of a senior Somalia security official, who was was gunned down late on Tuesday by one of his own bodyguards.

Abdiweli Ibrahim Mohamed, the head of national security in Somalia's Middle Shebelle region, was shot dead in Jowhar, a town 90 kilometres north of Mogadishu.

"Two other bodyguards were wounded," Ahmed Mohamud, a police officer in Jowhar, said. "The assassin ran away, we are pursuing him."

Residents said the bodyguard who shot the security chief was a former member of al Shabaab who had defected to the government.

A spokesman for al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group which seeks to topple the western backed government in Mogadishu and impose Islamic law, or sharia, claimed responsibility.

"We are behind the killing of the head of the national security for Middle Shebelle region," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, spokesman for the group's military operations, told Reuters late on Tuesday.

An African Union (AU)-mandated force, AMISOM, forced al Shabaab from most of its strongholds in southern Somalia, but it continues to conduct deadly attacks on Somalia's security forces, AMISOM and civilian targets, mostly in the capital Mogadishu.

The Borno State chapter of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) has denied participating in a nationwide strike planned to commence today, June 21, 2016.

This was disclosed via a statement issued by Acting President of NARD Borno, Muhammad Abdullahi in Maiduguri.

The statement reads:

It should be noted that all inhabitants of the 27 local government areas of Borno State are currently residing in Internally Displaced Persons camps within Maiduguri Metropolis.

Two days ago, about 200 victims with different ailments were freed from captivity within Bama town and its environs, all receiving care in our facility.

Maiduguri is a war theatre comprising of the men of the Nigeria Army, they need all our support in terms of the provision of health care service”, Abdullahi said.

He noted that University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) is the only hospital serving not only Borno State, but as a reference centre for other states in the Northeast ravaged by Boko Haram insurgency.

Ex-Gov vows to get justice on Abia North senatorial rerun election

A former governor of Abia, Chief Orji Kalu, has vowed to exhaust judicial process to get justice in the 2015 rerun senatorial poll in Abia North senatorial zone.

Kalu, the candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance in the elections, made this known after he testified at the State and National Assembly Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Umuahia on Tuesday.

Led in evidence by Mr Kelvin Nwafor (SAN), his counsel, Kalu adopted his deposition on Oath before the three-member tribunal, headed by Justice James Abundaga.

He also verified and confirmed result sheets from polling units in Arochukwu Local Government Area, namely Arochukwu Ward 3, Uturu and Ohafor Wards.

The result sheets were tendered by Nwafor and admitted in evidence by the tribunal,.

Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) and Chief Livy Uzoukwu (SAN) counsel to the respondent, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, reserved their objections for the final written addresses.

The tribunal chairman later adjourned sitting to Wednesday for the cross-examination of the petitioner.

Kalu, who spoke with newsmen after the proceeding, expressed absolute confidence in the judiciary.

He said that he would exhaust the judicial process to recover the mandate allegedly given to him by the people during the election.

 

"I am at the tribunal to fight for justice instead of using machete and arrows to attack people, the court is a legitimate place to settle disputes.

"I have always maintained, even when I was a governor, that the judiciary has done a lot for the common man and I will not be an exception.

"I have faith in the judiciary at all levels and I have absolute confidence that the tribunal members will do a good job," he said.

He said that his expectation was for the tribunal "to recount the votes and declare me the winner."

Kalu, who was Abia governor between 1999 and 2007, said that he would appeal the tribunal's
judgment, if it failed to declare him the winner of the election.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Spoilers: Nina Dobrev Returns As Katherine, Not Elena?

After “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 sad end note, fans are eagerly waiting for the eighth season.  Series creator Julie Plec confirmed Nina Dobrev’s return back to the show in the season 8 finale. Ever since viewers are keen to know if she would return as Elena or Katherine. What if Dobrev returns as Katherine?

While most of “The Vampire Diaries” spoilers claim that Nina Dobrev would return for a big “Delena” moment, the most recent buzzes from Design  & Trend hints that Dobrev might reprise her role as Katherine and not as Elena.
However, it is yet to see how Dobrev would return back in “The Vampire Diaries Season 8″. But her fans are already excited to hear her possible reunion with actor Ian Somerhalder. Yet, there are several fans who think that Nina’s re-entry into the show was not at all needed at this point.

Non-Delena fans do feel that Dobrev’s exit from the show made it a lot better. If ever she wants to return back, it is better to be back as Katherine than Elena. The other theory says that Bonnie will remain as such until the end and Dobrev’s entry would be as Katherine beyond expectation.

The UK's Sun posted a batch of pics of Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift going for a walk together on a beach, kissing and holding hands.
In addition, the two were seen at the Met Ball.

Hiddleston previously told MTV about Taylor Swift: “I sat next to her at dinner that night and she was very charming. She is amazing – I’ve seen a couple of her videos. I think Shake It Off was released around the time we made I (the film) Saw the Light and she’s very cool, yeah.”

Justice League Scene Description Revealed (Gordon, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg)

With the release of the Justice League logo and details, now comes a scene description that involves JK Simmons' Commissioner Gordon, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Cyborg.

Gordon summons Batman with the Batsignal, with Batman showing up with Wonder Woman and The Flash. Gordon tells Batman that eight scientists have gone missing. Cyborg then appears out of the shadows and says, 'Nine. A Star Labs scientist was taken tonight." It's said Wonder Woman looks at Cyborg with a knowing and seductive gaze. Batman asks who took them, "Winged monkeys?" Wonder Woman clarifies, "Parademons. There must be a nest nearby."

It's learned the Parademons nest is located underground in an old abandoned tunnel that links Gotham to Metroplois. The Flash jokes that if Cyborg is going to come with them, they are not all going to fit. Batman then says, "I have something bigger," with a new vehicle revealed, The Nightcrawler, which was developed by his father Thomas Wayne (and is involved in a big tunnel battle). 

Gordon't turns his back, with Batman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg sneaking away (like Batman does). The Flash jokes, "Oh, so they all just left? That's rude." The Flash then makes his exit.

Grant Gustin Confirms Flashpoint For The Flash Season 3

The Season 2 finale for The Flash saw a page come to life straight out of the comic books, and now Grant Gustin teases Flashpoint.
Gustin took to Twitter to reveal the title of the first episode of Season 3, which is "Flashpoint."


"Just finished reading episode 3-01 titled JK NOT GONNA TELL YOU YET! I'm SO excited to get back to work in 2 weeks," Gustin tweeted.
Showrunner Greg Berlanti then responded with: "I'm cool with you telling them the title."
Gustin followed that up by tweeting: "FLASHPOINT. This is not a drill."

First Lady, Aisha Buhari Calls Fayose A Mad Dog That Is Not Chained

Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has rebuked the governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, over allegation that she was involved in the Halliburton scandal. “Enough is Enough Fayose. A mad dog that isn’t chained.  I refuse to keep quiet,” the First Lady posted on her verified Twitter handle.

Earlier, the Presidency has said that Fayose acted so infantile by linking Aisha to US Congressman William Jefferson’s bribery scandal for which the American lawmaker was convicted in 2009. Following the blockage of account of the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, which he operates with Zenith Bank Plc, the governor has vehemently reacted to the development, alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari and his family members are not saints after all. Accusing President Muhammadu Buhari and his family of being corrupt, the Governor said in a press release by his Chief Press Secretary Mr Idowu Adelusi, that, ” Even the President cannot claim to be an angel. The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal. When that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialize the judgment for people to see and read.”

Arrow Season 5 Adds Artemis

Madison McLaughlin will reprise her role as Evelyn Sharp in Arrow Season 5, becoming the archer vigilante called Artemis. Sharp was last seen in the Season 4 episode “Canary Cry,” in which she impersonated Black Canary to seek revenge for her parents’ deaths on Damien and Ruvé Darhk.
According to Variety. McClaughlin will make her Season 5 debut in the season’s second episode and her arc will play out over multiple episodes as she forges her new heroic identity.

Artemis is a character featured in the Young Justice animated series who was loosely based on the Young Justice comic book character Arrowette. The daughter of villains Sportsmaster and Tigress, she became Green Arrow’s sidekick after Roy Harper, Speedy, went solo. Arrow may be setting her on a similar path, setting Green Arrow, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), up to be the mentor and role model that leads Artemis onto a more noble path after her morally questionable actions in Season 4.


Another potentially interesting twist is that the Artemis of Young Justice entered a romantic relationship with the team's Kid Flash, Wally West. Wally is played by Keiynan Lonsdale on The Flash, and the two shows will cross over once again next season. It will be interesting to see if The CW showrunners decide to bring the same romantic sparks from the animated series into the live action television universe.

Fans will have to wait a few more months to find out. The Arrow Season 5 premiere will air Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

UPCOMING CW TV SERIES THIS OCTOBER

Finally we have a reason to change the countdown clock back to "countdown" than count up! The official premiere dates for all of the CW's shows have been announced according to TVLine.com. Its actually very interesting to note that Flash and Arrow are going to get underway a week before Supergirl starts. That is obviously by design since CW now has control of all the DC TV shows in the Berlanti-verse. Seeing as Flash now starts off the next season, it might lead us to believe the events in the Flash are going to aim a larger focus for the all show crossover event. That is just speculation on our part though. Nonetheless, here are the premiere dates for the CW DCTV shows!

1. Tuesday, Oct. 4 | 8 pm The Flash season 3
2. Wednesday, Oct. 5 | 8 pm Arrow season 5
3. Monday, Oct. 10 | 8 pm Supergirl season 2

Buhari returns, challenges journalist to wrestling contest

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday returned to Nigeria after spending 14 days in London, United Kingdom.

In a short interaction at the airport, Buhari challenged one of the State House correspondents, who asked him about his state of health, to a wrestling contest.

“You know I am taller than you. Do you want to wrestle me?” the President asked in Hausa language.

He had earlier told the journalists that they could see him while he was inspecting the guard of honour, an indication that his health was in perfect condition.

“I am okay. You can see me inspecting the guard of honour.  You have seen me, you saw me when I was going. You can do the assessment yourself,” he said.

The presidential jet that conveyed the President landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 5.33pm.

Dressed in a light brown kaftan, Buhari was in company with two of his children – a son and a daughter; a few close aides and Alhaji Mamman Daura.

He was received by the Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari; the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; some members of the Federal Executive Council, top government officials, federal lawmakers and service chiefs.

On arrival, Buhari inspected a guard of honour mounted by men of the Guards Brigade.

Members of the National Troupe dressed in Yoruba and Fulani attire also danced to the admiration of the President.

Buhari had a brief closed-door interaction with the top government officials who came to receive him at the airport.

With the  airport ceremonies over, the President and some top aides left for the Presidential Villa in a long convoy.

The two governors in attendance in separate interviews expressed delight at the President’s return.

“We thank God for bringing him back to fix the country,” Yari said while Bello simply said, “Our daddy is back. He has gone to take a rest and he is back. We are happy and delighted to have him back.”

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, later told reporters that Buhari would be resuming duties on Monday (today).

“The President is going to resume work tomorrow. The Vice-President had said he would arrive today and he has arrived, then work starts in earnest tomorrow,” he said.

The presidential spokesman insisted that Buhari did not travel abroad for medical purposes.

He recalled that he wrote in the statement he issued that the President had been treated by Nigerian physicians.

He restated his position that what the Nigerian doctors told Buhari was that since he was going for holiday, experts could also look at him there.

He said, “It was not as if he was not treated in the country. He was treated, well treated and certified okay. Since he was going on holiday, he was asked to see experts there.

“Some people called it a medical leave. It was not. It was a leave to rest and during that rest, experts now looked at his health.

“So it was not principally a medical leave.”

Adesina then thanked Nigerians who wished the President well and appealed to others who he said went “into an overdrive to have a positive mindset to the President and everybody.”

The President had on June 6 commenced a 10-day vacation and proceeded to London on the same day.

The Presidency had in a statement indicated that the President would during the visit to London see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for a persistent ear infection.

The 10-day vacation ended on Wednesday.

Drowned student: Parent, community disagree over ‘burial sacrifice’

 The parents of a 20-year-old student of the University of Port Harcourt, who drowned in Choba River on June 1, 2016, have kicked against the pre-burial “sacrifice” proposed by the Choba community.

While the community insisted that the parents would pay the sum of N115, 000 for sacrifice before the late student, Omoseebi John Temidayo, could be buried, the father of the deceased kicked against the tradition, insisting that his status as a Christian would not support such a sacrifice.

Temidayo, a first-year student of the Faculty of Art and Humanity got drowned in Choba River when he was expected to be doing a menial job at a construction site.

The corpse remained by the side of the river for some days after it was found by a search party and was later buried according to the custom of the community.

The father of the deceased, Mr. Andrew Omoseebi, agreed that the decomposing body of his son be taken to their hometown in Oke Oro Ijero LGA of Ekiti State, but disagreed with the Paramount Ruler of Choba, His Royal Highness, Eze Raymond Okocha, on the payment of N115,000 for sacrifice.

On the controversy surrounding the burial of the deceased by the riverside, the paramount ruler stated that he was not hostile to the late boy’s parents, adding that he was only following the tradition mildly.

He said, “The father of the late boy came to my palace alongside some other pastors to tell me that their son drowned in the Choba River.

“I told them that in our culture, the corpse would be buried by the riverside. I also told them instances of what happened to people who disobeyed. I told them to carry the corpse if they insisted on taking the corpse to their place for burial.

 “We considered them so much and never wanted to give them strict conditions as the culture would demand. This is because it would have been bad for the corpse to decay into the river.

 “The money they said we demanded was for the burial rite by the riverside. Those who will bury the decaying corpse are not slaves.

 “They were meant to pay N150, 000, but I subsidized the money for them with my own money to ensure that the boy is buried and is not allowed to decay into the river.

 “I did not hinder them from carrying the corpse for autopsy or going ahead with other investigations into the events that lead to the death of the boy.”

Similarly, the father of the deceased (Omoseebi)  though he did not insist that he would take his child’s body back to Ekiti State for burial, he was angered by the demand for money from grief-stricken parents of the deceased.

 Omosebi said, “How can the Oba (monarch) of that community demand N115, 000 from us as if we came to marry a woman from the community. I am mourning the death of my only son and I am a Christian.”
